How do I remove box hair dye?

«

We get it. Sometimes it's difficult to get to the salon - like during a pandemic - and you take matters into your own hands. Perhaps you tried a semi permanent or permanent color kit at home and the color looks nothing like the one pictured on the box.  If you've used a drug store hair color and are't happy with the results, we can remove it.

It is possible to remove box hair dye, but this task is best left to a reputable hair salon. The last thing you want to do is permanently damage your hair by experimenting with chemicals.  Give Monaco Hair Salon a call at (813) 870-1709 ask for an appointment with one of our best hair color correction experts.

What's the difference between highlights or balayage?

«

Traditional foils and the balayage technique will both give you highlights, the difference is the intensity of the result. Balayage is a freehand technique that creates softer, more natural-looking highlights with a sun-kissed effect, while foils create more precise, defined streaks of color.

Which one should I get?

The answer depends on the look you want and how often are you willing to maintain it. Ask yourself how obvious you want your highlights to be, and if you want highlights all the way to the root. Highlights will have to be maintained every 6-8 weeks, while balayage usually grows out more gracefully, making it a lower-maintenance option.

Can I go from brunette to blonde in one appointment?

«

It depends on just how dark your hair is and its condition. It also depends on if you want a "blonde all over" look or a highlighted look. Going significantly lighter all over often requires multiple sessions to maintain the health of your hair and achieve the desired tone without excessive damage. We are blonding specialists and will be able to tell you how to get to the color you want safely.

How do I keep my hair color from fading?

«

Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, wash less frequently, protect your hair from heat with a thermal spray, and minimize sun and chlorine exposure.

Schedule a gloss or toner service to give your color a boost if you're not due for a full color service.

What is “lived-in color”?

«

Lived-in color is a technique that blends multiple shades (usually highlights and lowlights, or balayage) to create a dimensional look that grows out without harsh lines. It’s designed to give you a graceful grow in at the roots, allowing you more time between touch-ups while still looking polished. No wonder it's so popular!

How often will I need to touch up my hair color?

«

It depends on the type of color service and your personal preferences.

  • All-over permanent color: Roots typically need refreshing every 4–6 weeks, especially if you’re covering gray or maintaining a platinum blonde.
  • Highlights: Depending on your style, you may need to touch up your roots every 6-8 weeks.
  • Lived in color: These grow out more softly and can last 3–4 months before a full touch-up. Many guests come in sooner for a gloss or toner to keep the color fresh and shiny.
  • Fashion shades (reds, coppers, vivid colors): These tend to fade faster and may need refreshing every 4–8 weeks to keep the color vibrant.

Your stylist at Monaco Salon will customize a maintenance plan so your color always looks its best—whether that means regular root touch-ups, seasonal refreshes, or low-maintenance lived-in color.

Should I wash my hair before my color appointment?

«

Come with clean, dry hair if you're getting highlights, and avoid using heavy styling products the day of your appointment. It’s also helpful to bring inspiration photos and be ready to talk about your hair goals, maintenance preferences, and past color history so we can create the perfect plan for your hair.

Can I get highlights or balayage if I have hair extensions or a topper?

«

Yes! At Monaco Salon, we specialize in hair extensions and toppers and are experts in custom coloring them to match your natural hair seamlessly. Whether you’re coloring your natural hair, the extension hair, or both, we take extra care to blend everything flawlessly.

Hair Smoothing

Will Brazilian Blowout work on my hair?

«

The Brazilian Blowout works on all hair types. In our experience, the best candidates for the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment are those people with coarse, curly, or highly textured hair.  These hair types will see the most dramatic differences in their hair and their styling time. The Brazilian Blowout is very effective for eliminating frizz and creating a smooth, shiny look. We have performed the treatment on every hair type, even wavy and fine hair, as well as hair that has been permed, chemically straightened and with hair extensions.

How will may hair look after a Brazilian Blowout?

«

The hair will be left totally frizz-free, shiny, effortlessly manageable and with plenty of body and bounce. There will still be the option to wear hair curly/wavy (depending on the hair type) and the freedom to blow dry hair smooth and straight in a fraction of the time invested prior to receiving the treatment.

Can I get a Brazilian Blowout if my hair is colored?

«

Yes, the Brazilian Blowout will actually improve the health of color-treated/highlighted hair by conditioning the hair while sealing the cuticle for enhanced color, reduced frizz and radiant shine.

Is hair smoothing the same as hair straightening?

«

Hair smoothing and hair straightening are similar yet different in an important way. Hair smoothing, like the Brazilian Blowout, will last a long time but the results are temporary.  Your natural curl pattern will return after several months.  Hair straightening is a chemical service that permanently straightens the hair.  The curl pattern will only return on untreated hair, meaning new growth at the roots.

How long does a Brazilian Blowout last?

«

The Brazilian Blowout will last up to four months or more if the Açai After-Care Maintenance product line is used. The Brazilian Blowout is a cumulative treatment. The more you receive it, the healthier the hair will be and the longer the result will last.

Can I receive a Brazilian Blowout after a relaxer?

«

Yes. The Brazilian Blowout actually works very well on chemically treated hair, and helps to improve the condition of the hair by fortifying each strand with essential amino acids. Brazilian Blowout is a nice alternative to a chemical relaxer if you are trying to grow out your relaxed hair.

Will Brazilian Blowout make my hair flat?

«

No, your hair will not look flat as a result of receiving the Brazilian Blowout. Your hair will maintain its natural volume and you will still have that great bend and memory when blow-drying and/or using a curling iron. The Brazilian Blowout is adjustable, meaning we can remove all the curl pattern or we can leave some wave. It's up to you.

Can I get hair color and Brazilian Blowout on the same day?

«

Yes, but the sequence is important here.  You can color first and then have a Brazilian Blowout but you can't do the reverse. If you recently had a Brazilian Blowout and wish to get a color service, you should wait at least 2 weeks or else you risk reducing or shortening the effectiveness of the smoothing treatment.

What’s the difference between a Keratin Smoothing Treatment and a Brazilian Blowout?

«

Although people often use the names interchangeably, the two services are formulated differently and work in slightly different ways.

A Keratin Smoothing Treatment uses a keratin-based formula that penetrates the hair cuticle, then is sealed in with heat to temporarily strengthen and smooth the hair. It’s more of a deep conditioning and restructuring treatment that fills in weak spots along the hair shaft. Results tend to be a bit heavier and silkier, and the treatment usually requires a 72-hour “no washing or tying up” period so the keratin bonds can fully set.

A Brazilian Blowout is also keratin-based, but the formulation involves amino acids and bonding technologies that coat the hair shaft rather than penetrate as deeply. This creates a protective, flexible shield around each strand. The result is lighter, more customizable smoothing—you can keep some wave or go straight—and you can wash or style the hair immediately afterward.

How much does a hair topper cost?

«

The price of a hair topper varies depending on the quality, length, and whether the hair is human hair or synthetic. If the topper is custom colored, trimmed, attached with a beaded row method, or using mesh integration, there is an additional cost.

At our salon, most human hair topper service—including customization—starts around $2,200 which includes the hair piece, custom hair color, the initial installation, and a haircut to blend it in. We’ll provide an exact quote during your consultation.

Can you re-install hair extensions that have been worn already?

«

Whether or not we can re-install hair will depend on a few factors, as our priority is always to protect the integrity of your hair and provide you with a high quality service. Generally speaking, we can re-install hair from any company as long as it is in good condition, 100% human hair, and appropriate for the methods we use.

Here are some difference scenarios to clarify our policy on reinstalling hair.

If your hair was installed at Monaco Salon and we're doing a maintenance appointment on your hand-tied wefts, or hair topper, YES we reuse and re-install the hair as often as we can over the life expectancy of the hair. We will let you know when your hair is getting close to the point where it needs to be replaced.

Suppose you took a break from your extensions and you want to bring us hair purchased at Monaco Salon, and within one of our installation methods, YES we can reinstall the hair provided that it is still in good shape.

What if you come to us for maintenance or move up for extensions that were purchased and installed somewhere else, will we reinstall the hair? If the hair is within one of our installation methods and within one of the specific brands we work with (Great Lengths, Bellami, Hair Dreams etc) YES we can reinstall the hair provided that it is still in good shape.

Will we install hair you purchased elsewhere and have worn, and it is within one of our installation methods and within one of the specific brands we work with (Great Lengths, Bellami, and Hair dreams), YES we can reinstall the hair provided that it is still in good shape

Will we re-install keratin bond extensions? NO, once removed, keratin bond hair cannot be reapplied, regardless of where you purchased them or which brand they are. Keratin bond extensions are a one time use item and can not be reinstalled once removed.

Can you install extensions that I purchased somewhere else?

«

Generally speaking, we can install hair from any company as long as it is in good condition, 100% human hair, and appropriate for the application methods we use. No matter where you purchased the hair, even if already worn, we can re-install it provided that the hair meets that criteria.

Can you custom color hair extensions that I purchased somewhere else?

«

We understand that some guests already own hair extensions and may want us to adjust the color. While we don’t mind installing extensions you’ve purchased elsewhere, we will not color, dye, or lighten any extensions not purchased directly through Monaco Salon—even if they are human hair or a brand we regularly use.

Here’s why:

  • Unknown quality cannot be guaranteed. Not all hair labeled “100% human” is the same quality. Some extensions are processed in ways that make them unpredictable when exposed to color. Coloring them can lead to breakage, uneven tones, or permanent damage, and we can't be responsible for that.
  • Chemical history is unknown. If we didn’t source the hair, we can’t know how it was previously processed (bleached, tinted, or chemically treated). Even small differences in processing can affect how the hair reacts to color.
  • Protecting your investment. Coloring extensions is not like coloring natural hair—it’s more delicate and far less forgiving. By only coloring hair we’ve supplied, we protect you from spending money on extensions that might be ruined in the process.

Warranty Policy Reminder:

If you purchase extensions and have them installed at Monaco Salon, only our stylists should cut or color those extensions. If another salon alters them in any way (cutting, dyeing, or lightening), any remaining Monaco Salon warranty on the hair is voided.

How much do hair extensions cost at Monaco?

«

We get a lot of calls with this question, and the answer depends on many factors. Hair extensions prices can range from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars depending on the brand, the attachment method, the amount and length of hair. Application time also impacts the cost of your hair extensions. We can propose different ways to work within your budget, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. You may not need a full head of extensions, and we can add volume and length where you need it. Do you offer NBR extensions?

Hair Toppers

Is there a way to keep my appointment more discreet?

«

Yes, we provide a private styling room upon request. Some of our guests prefer privacy while addressing hair loss or wearing a topper, while others require modesty for cultural or religious reasons. Whatever your personal needs, we will gladly honor them and make sure you feel comfortable. Simply let us know when booking, and we’ll reserve a private space for your appointment. Many clients searching for a private hair appointment in Tampa choose Monaco Salon because we respect and accommodate their request for discretion.

What's the difference between a hair topper and a wig?

«

A hair topper is designed to cover just the top of the crown or along the part line to conceal thinning hair or sparse areas. It adds volume and coverage on top but still allows your own hair to show. A wig covers all of your hair, making it a good choice for total hair loss, or for those who want complete coverage or a total style change.

How do you maintain a hair topper?

«

Maintenance depends on how your topper is worn:

Clip-in toppers – These are designed for daily wear. You’ll remove them before bed, gently detangle them, and store them on a stand or in a box to keep their shape. Wash only when needed, using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and always let them air-dry.

Toppers with a beaded attachment method– These are secured 24/7 using the same method as beaded row hair extensions. Your topper will be professionally installed so you don't have to worry if you're "doing it right." If we've installed it for full-time wear, after 8 weeks, your natural hair will have grown quite a bit, so we'll have you in for a maintenance visit. We'll remove and reposition your topper. After another 4 weeks, you'll come back for another short maintenance appointment so that we can tighten it. That's it, a simple in-salon maintenance routine that alternates between repositioning and tightening.

Shampooing: To wash your human hair topper, start by gently detangling it—begin at the ends and work your way up to the base. If you are wearing your topper with clips, remove it. Use a sulfate-free cleansing shampoo with lukewarm water, and always wash in a downward motion without rubbing or scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly, then apply a moisturizing conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. Rinse well and let your topper air dry on a wig stand to help it keep its shape and stay looking its best.

Can a hair topper be colored or styled?

«

Yes, if the topper is high-quality human hair, it can be cut, colored, and heat-styled just like your natural hair. Synthetic toppers, however, have more limitations and may not be safe for heat styling or color changes. Always consult your stylist before making changes.

How long does a hair topper last?

«

The lifespan depends on the quality of the topper, how often it’s worn, and how well it’s maintained. With proper care, a human hair topper can last 18-24 months (sometimes longer), while synthetic toppers usually last 4–6 months.

Is a hair topper or wig covered by medical insurance?

«

If you're experiencing hair loss due to a medical condition, your health insurance may cover part or all of the cost of your hair topper or wig, or medically speaking, your Cranial Hair Prosthesis. When contacting your insurance provider, it’s important to use the correct terminology. Avoid referring to the unit as a “wig” or “topper,” as those are often considered cosmetic. Instead, ask about coverage for a cranial hair prosthesis or hair replacement unit related to medical hair loss. Every policy is different, so we recommend reaching out to your insurance company directly for details on eligibility and documentation requirements.

Will my hair topper look like a wig?

«

If your topper is properly matched to your natural hair, it won't look like a wig or a topper at all. The key to the topper looking natural is the density of the hair piece itself. Hair density refers to the number of individual hair strands present per square inch. Our toppers are designed with low density so that when combined with your own hair, they create a very natural look. It will look like have more of your own hair. You'll definitely get the coverage and comfort you need, in a very believable, natural way. Krista searched high and low to find a comfortable, low density hair topper for her clients with thinning hair and hair loss. Clients are astonished how there's no tightness, no wig look or feel, and how they don't even feel the attachments. Those benefits are all thanks to "low density!"

What is mesh integration?

«

Mesh integration is a technique used to create a secure foundation for a topper when there isn’t enough natural hair to anchor the attachments. A fine, breathable mesh is placed over the thinning area, then secured to your existing hair and/or scalp. This mesh becomes the “base” for applying a beaded row topper, ensuring a stable, comfortable fit even when natural hair density is sparse.

Mesh Integration

What is mesh integration?

Mesh integration is a technique used to create a secure foundation for a topper when there isn’t enough natural hair to anchor the attachments. A fine, breathable mesh is placed over the thinning area, then secured to your existing hair and/or scalp. This mesh becomes the “base” for applying a beaded row topper, ensuring a stable, comfortable fit even when natural hair density is sparse.

Who is a good candidate for mesh integration?

«

Anyone with hair too sparse for traditional extensions—due to hair loss, damage, or medical conditions—is a candidate. You’ll need some hair to work with, but not the usual 3 inches required for other methods.

Can mesh integration work if I have alopecia or bare spots?

«

Yes. Unlike most extension methods that require even hair coverage and a minimum length to work with, mesh integration works around bare patches, making it a great option for alopecia sufferers or anyone with localized hair loss.

Is mesh integration permanent or removable?

«

It’s a semi-permanent solution. Once installed, it stays in place for several weeks or longer, with maintenance appointments typically spaced out more than other methods. But it stays in place day and night until it's removed at the salon.

Will mesh integration damage my natural hair?

«

No. In fact, mesh integration protects your natural hair by reducing tension at the roots and distributing weight evenly. It also allows your natural hair to grow underneath.

How is mesh integration different from a hair topper?

«

A hair topper sits on top of your hair and is attached with clips or a beaded row method. But a hair topper on its own is only possible if there is enough hair to attach to. Mesh integration creates the foundation so your topper and extensions can be attached.

Can I sleep and shower with mesh integration?

«

Yes. The system is designed to be worn 24/7. You can sleep, shower, and go about your daily life comfortably with the mesh in place.

How long does mesh integration last?

«

With proper care and regular maintenance, a mesh system can last several months. Your topper and extensions may need to be inspected and adjusted every 6–8 weeks.

Will the mesh be visible through my hair?

«

Not at all. The mesh is lightweight, breathable, and blends in with your scalp. It’s virtually undetectable.

Where can I get mesh integration?

«

Not many extension salons offer mesh integration. Monaco Salon owner, Krista Abad, is a hair loss specialist and offers this technique exclusively at our Bay to Bay location in South Tampa.

It starts with a private consultation with Krista. She’ll assess your hair loss, discuss your options, and design a custom solution that blends seamlessly with your hair and lifestyle. The consultation is free of charge and you're under no obligation. You can book a virtual consultation or book an in person consultation in our private setting.

Hair loss can feel isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you're just starting to notice thinning or you're further along in your journey, there are beautiful, modern solutions available. We invite you to come in and have a conversation—no pressure, just support.
